State Rep. Davis Helps Deliver State Funding for Local School Projects

State Representative Christopher Davis (R-Ellington) today voted in favor of legislation which contains grant money for local school construction projects in Ellington and East Windsor.

Senate Bill 876, AN ACT CONCERNING AUTHORIZATION OF STATE GRANT COMMITMENTS FOR SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECTS AND ROOF PITCH REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOOL BUILDINGS, authorizes grant money to be allocated for school construction projects for 27 schools across Connecticut.

In the early months of the current legislative session, State Rep. Davis advocated for Ellington and East Windsor schools to be included in the legislation.

“These projects were approved by the residents of East Windsor and Ellington, and now this reimbursement from the state will allow for our local elementary schools, which are in much need of improvement, to get the funds they require to complete these necessary projects,” said Rep. Davis. “As our towns continue to grow, I am pleased that our community’s schools were rightfully included in this bill.”

According to the legislation that was co-sponsored by Rep. Davis, local school districts will be reimbursed by the state Department of Construction Services for certain percentages of the total cost of the construction projects.

Included in the legislation are state reimbursements for the construction projects of two schools in Ellington, Crystal Lake School and Windermere School, and Broad Brook Elementary School in East Windsor.

Broad Brook Elementary school will be receiving an estimated grant of $2,181,322, which will cover 60 percent of the cost for an extension and energy conservation project.

Crystal Lake school in Ellington will be receiving a $10,744,109 grant, which will cover 57.5 percent of the cost of an extension, altercation and roof replacement project. Windermere school in Ellington will be receiving $10,744,109 in state grant money, which will cover 60 percent of the planned alteration project.

The bill now awaits approval by the Governor before being enacted. The legislative session ended on June 5th at midnight. Rep. Davis represents the 57th district covering East Windsor & Ellington.
