Rep. Davis Discusses the 2014 Legislative Session in Broad Brook - Next Forum to be held in Ellington

On Thursday, January 23rd, State Representative Christopher Davis (R-57th) hosted a Town Hall Meeting at the East Windsor Town Hall in Broad Brook to discuss the issues facing the 2014 Legislative Session, which begins February 5th.

Around twenty people listened intently as Rep. Davis discussed the current shape of Connecticut’s finances and economy with the help of a detailed PowerPoint presentation. After the presentation by Rep. Davis, the representative from Ellington answered questions from the audience concerning Connecticut’s high taxes on gasoline and sluggish economic development.

“With the beginning of the new legislative session upon us, I wanted to update our community on where we stand as a state and the likely direction our state will be heading-in this year. I’d like to thank everyone who participated in the discussion, and I’m looking forward to continuing the discussion at my next Town Hall Meeting in Ellington,” said Rep. Davis.

During the meeting, Rep. Davis also discussed the new House Republican proposal to save consumers a total of $185 million by restoring tax exemptions for clothing, footwear and over-the-counter medicine, and provide small business relief by eliminating a special unemployment assessment of $59 million - without adding to the state deficit. The new initiative was released by the House Republicans just hours before the meeting.

The next Town Hall Forum will be held on Wednesday, January 29th, from 6:00PM to 7:30PM at Ellington Town Hall, 55 Main Street, in Ellington. The event is free and open to the public.
