East Windsor Officials Recognize Local Camp Director for Life-Saving Actions

On Thursday, August 22nd, State Representative Christopher Davis (R-57th) joined East Windsor public officials and law enforcement officers to recognize Kathleen Russotto, Camp Director at Sports World in East Windsor, for her heroic, life-saving action when a tornado touched down on the camp grounds more than a month ago.

On July 1st, twenty nine campers and five counselors were inside of the dome at Sports World in East Windsor when Russotto received a message on her phone indicating that a tornado warning had been issued.

Russotto instantly rounded-up the children and instructed them to quickly head to a nearby building and get under the tables for safety. Just minutes after Russotto confirmed every child was safe, a F1 tornado ripped the sports dome to pieces, sending parts of the dome across I-91 which lies directly across from the complex.

On Thursday, State Representative Christopher Davis presented Russotto with an Official Citation from the Connecticut General Assembly to commend her bravery and exemplary response during the storm.

“I’d like to personally thank Kathleen for her leadership and actions which helped protect the lives and safety of many from a tornado that swept thru our town so unexpectedly,” said Rep. Davis. “We were all given very little warning of the dangerous conditions on that day, and it’s thanks to Kathleen’s quick thinking, by safely moving everyone at camp to a more secure location, children and camp consolers were kept out of harm’s way.”
