Windsor Locks Girls Tennis Defeats Canton

The Raiders win their sixth team match and avenge an earlier season loss to Canton.

In NCCC Girls’ Tennis on Tuesday at Windsor Locks High School, sixth-place Windsor Locks (6-10) defeated eighth-place Canton (3-11) by a 5-2 score avenging an early season loss at Canton. 

Windsor Locks #2 Doubles Jr. Tianna Duquette and Junior Diane Vo clinched the match for Windsor Locks with a come-from-behind victory in a three- set match. 

Windsor Locks #1 Singles Sophomore Cristina Szepanski didn’t lose a game, improving her record to 11-5 as she qualified for the State Class S Tournament being held on June 4 at Yale University.

Windsor Locks #2 Singles Jr. Kimberly Love and Windsor Locks #4 Singles Jr. Julie DellaGuistina also won in straight sets. 

Windsor Locks #3 Doubles Senior Ali Martinez and Junior Jenn Rivera also won three sets. 
#1 Doubles Senior Amy Wetzel and Junior Charlotte Zocco lost a hard-fought three-set match.

It was also Senior Day for Locks Girls’ Tennis as they honored their Senior Co-Captains, Ali Martinez and Amy Wetzel and recognized their parents (Stalin and Jeanette Martinez and Brian and Paula Wetzel) before the match.  Ali Martinez will be attending the University of Connecticut-West Hartford while Amy Wetzel will be attending Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass.

#2 Singles Kimberly Love (WL) def. Nancy Kutz (C) 6-1, 6-1.
#3 Singles Jill Miller(C) def. Carolyn Vo (WL) 6-1, 6-1.
#4 Singles Julie Della Guistina (WL) def. Marta Lingenfield (C) 6-3, 6-2.

#1 Doubles Katherine Eich/Stephanie Kupchik (C) def. Amy Wetzel/Charlotte Zocco (WL) 6-3, 3-6, 3-6.
#2 Tianna Duquette/Diane Vo (WL) def. Kelsey Poe/Kailyn Malloy (C) 6-7(3) 6-3, 6-1.
#3 Ali Martinez/Jenn Rivera (WL) def. Sammy Joerg/Kelly McCartney (C) 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
