UConn Named Among 'Best Value' Public Schools by Kiplinger’s Magazine

The Washington, D.C.-based publication placed UConn in the top 30.

The has been ranked among the top 100 national public universities that offer the "best value for a quality education," according to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine.

UConn ranked 30th, up from 32nd last year.

"As states cut funding for higher education and tuition continues to climb, the word ‘value’ becomes more significant than ever," Jane Bennett Clark, senior editor at Kiplinger’s personal finance, said in a prepared statement.

After starting with data from 500 public college and universities, the magazine then narrowed down its selection by comparing schools’ academic value and cost.

"This year’s top 100 public schools deliver strong academics at reasonable prices. We applaud these institutions for tightening their belts without compromising quality," Bennett Clark said.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Florida, the University of Virginia, The College of William and Mary and New College of Florida rounded out the top five values.

Complete results will appear in Kiplinger’s February 2012 issue. For more information, visit www.kiplinger.com
