Superintendent: East Windsor Students 'Doing Well' in Wake of Accident

Dr. Theresa Kane said that students are grieving, but persevering.

The East Windsor school community is grieving, but persevering, after the tragic death of a 15-year-old town high school student over Memorial Day weekend, according to the schools’ top official.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Theresa Kane said on Wednesday that students were still in a bit of a state of shock over the death of Brooke Wormstedt, who was a passenger in a one-vehicle accident that also claimed the life of another teenager and injured three others on May 25.

“I think the student are doing well - they’re very quiet,” Kane said. “We have support in place to help the kids and they are accessing that support.”
Kane said that she anticipated yesterday’s calling hours and today’s funeral services at St. Catherine Church in Broad Brook to be difficult.

“We’ve all grieved at some point in our lives,” Kane said. “There’s a process.”
Kane said that Wormstedt, who was on the track and field team at East Windsor High, was a vivacious girl around whom there was never a dull moment.
