In a sure sign of the times, Michael Oney stood in front of 125 fellow graduates from Friday and closed his welcome speech with a quote from the literary hotbed known as Facebook:
"All that stands between the graduate and the top of the ladder is the ladder."
Oney and the rest of the Class of 2012 became the third-largest group of honorees in the college's history, dating to 1972. A total of 297 graduates received degrees and/or certificates, totaling 414 awards.

Dr. Martha McLeod, president of the college, quoted author Patrick Overton:
"Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny."

The keynote speaker, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, had high praise for the college, particularly the .
"This community college teaches precision machining and welding, and the skills that make great manufacturers," Blumenthal told the capacity crowd under a large tent in the rear of the campus. "We need to keep manufacturing in the United States; we need to make things in America."
Prior to the conferral of degrees, several awards were presented. Oney received the Broken Paddle Award, James Angelo was presented the Nelson Bordeau Award, and Maria Dusseault took home the Distinguished Service Award.
Longtime Enfield attorney and Rotarian Robert Berger received the Presidential Merit Award.
