East Windsor Superintendent: Grief Counselors Will Be Available Tuesday

Seven psychologists and grief counselors will be available, according to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Theresa Kane.

In response to the fatal accident in which two teenagers died, including an East Windsor High student, the East Windsor school system will have grief counselors and psychologists available when students return from Memorial Day weekend, according to the top school official.

East Windsor High student Brooke Wormstedt, 15, along with Vernon resident Matthew Masse, 18, died in the accident that took place on Abbe Road on the South Windsor-East Windsor border.

Three others were injured: Sara S. Ballard, 19, of Sandstone Drive, South Windsor.  Ballard has been identified as the driver of the vehicle; Christine E. Huppe, 17, of Wedgewood Lane, South Windsor; and, Megan E. Barnaby, 16, of Rice Road, East Windsor.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Theresa Kane said in a telephone interview Sunday that the school district’s protocols have been put into place, including having East Windsor High teachers report to work early on Tuesday along with seven grief counselors and psychologists.

The counselors and psychologists will then be assigned wherever needed in the schools, Kane said.

In addition, East Windsor High Principal Edward Keleher will send a message to parents through the school messenger system, Kane said.

“This is going to be all the more difficult because this class lost a classmate last summer,” said Kane, referring to 15-year-old Nicole Weed, who died on July 23, 2012 in an ATV accident.
