East Windsor Board of Education Chooses New Superintendent

A 35-year educator who heads Ludlow, MA, public schools will take the reins of East Windsor schools in July.

A Massachusetts superintendent has been chosen to head East Windsor schools starting next school year.

The board of education Thursday approved offering the position to Theresa Kane, who is currently superintendent of Ludlow, MA, public schools. Kane and East Windsor school officials have not yet negotiated her salary, which they expect to do next week.

“I’m thrilled,” Kane, who was at Thursday’s meeting, said. “I’m excited. I can’t wait to get started.”

Kane, 56, has been in education for 35 years and has been superintendent of the 3,100-student Ludlow school system since 2005. She has been in the Ludlow school system for all, but the four years she spent as special education supervisor in Westfield, MA, school system, the town in which she and her husband reside.

She will retire from Ludlow and start in East Windsor on July 1. Carol Fox will remain acting superintendent for the rest of the school year.

Kane was one of three finalists chosen by the search committee to go through a final interview process with two focus groups last month. When all three had been interviewed, the committee unanimously decided that Kane stood out among the three.

The committee only recommended Kane to the Board of Education.

Board Secretary Leslie Hunt said the 13-member search committee reviewed 25 applicants for the position before ultimately recommending Kane.

Board Chairman Joh Pica-Sneeden said he feels good that the search committee did a good job in finding the new superintendent and that Kane rose to the top during the process.

“I think we’ve found another perfect fit for East Windsor,” Pica-Sneeden said. “I think she’s awesome.”

School officials began looking for another superintendent in August after Timothy Howes accepted another position in Wethersfield Public Schools.
