East Windsor Receives State Grant to Replace Sidewalks at Broad Brook Elementary School

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Tuesday eight communities will receive the Small Town Economic Assistance Program awards.

 

East Windsor is one of  eight communities that will receive receive Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) awards for infrastructure improvement projects, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Tuesday.

East Windsor will receive the money to replace sidewalks at .
 
“These grants represent the important partnership between our towns and state government,”Malloy said in a released statement. “As we work to reinvent Connecticut, supporting local projects that improve centers of commerce, town facilities, and schools will make us a stronger, more competitive state, all while improving the quality of life for residents.”

The other communities receiving grants are Fairfield, North Branford, North Haven, Somers, Thompson, Westport, and Willington. The state Bond Commission allocated $20 million for 2012 STEAP grants in September 2011, with the first awards coming in December 2011.

State Representative Christopher Davis thanked Governor Malloy for recognizing the need for infrastructure improvements in Broad Brook Center and investing the STEAP funds.

“This grant won’t transform Broad Brook overnight, but it does facilitate a process of revitalization that is happening in the village,” Davis said. “Safe walking paths for pedestrians are an important step toward injecting activity into this area, helping our businesses thrive, and making Broad Brook Center a more inviting place to be. The revitalization in the center is essential to the long-term success of East Windsor. I’m excited for the project to begin.”

 
Grants are awarded to small towns across the state in part due to their impact on overall regional economic development, a press release said.
