East Windsor Plans to Foreclose on Four Properties

Foreclosures are part of a larger effort to collect delinquent taxes on real property.

The East Windsor Board of Selectmen on Tuesday unanimously approved having the town’s tax collector pursue strict foreclosure proceedings on four parcels on which back taxes have been owed for more than 15 years.

Tax Collector Kim Lord told the selectmen that she could not even determine the owners of three of the four parcels.

The parcels, located on Winkler Road, Church Street, Rice Road and East Road, all have 16 years’ worth of delinquent taxes, said Lord.

Pursuing a strict foreclosure will cost the town $3,000 for each property, Lord said.

But Lord said she is targeting those four parcels because the town has the best opportunity to recoup any money spent on the foreclosures by re-selling them.

Lord said in a memorandum to First Selectman Denise Menard that this was part of her efforts to resolve over 100 delinquent real estate accounts.

Lord told the selectmen Tuesday that, with the help of an attorney, the town has successfully collected $1 million in delinquent taxes and interest since she started the project about a year ago.

To further pursue the matter, Lord will have to get approval from the town’s Board of Finance.
