East Windsor Board of Selectmen Engages Attorney to Handle Elections Complaint Against First Selectman

The board took the action after Judith Rajala, who filed the elections complaint, sent a letter to the boards of finance and selectmen questioning First Selectwoman Denise Menard using the town attorney in the case.

 

The East Windsor Board of Selectmen Tuesday approved a letter of engagement for the town attorney to represent First Selectwoman Denise Menard and the town in an elections complaint, route: {:controller=>"articles", :action=>"show", :id=>"election-violations-complaint-filed-against-east-windsor-first-selectman"} --> brought by Judith Rajala.

Rajala, unsuccessfully ran against Menard in the November 2011 election, sent an email to the boards of selectmen and finance saying that she filed her election violations complaint against Menard as a private citizen. “Therefore Denise may NOT use taxpayer funds to defend herself in these matters.”

Rajala filed the complaint with the State Elections Enforcement Commission in August. In the complaint, Rajala lists 10 separate allegations against Menard. Among the allegations are threats against employees, illegally entering polling places on election day, and retaliation against town employees who supported Rajala, who
