East Windsor Becoming Two District Town

The redistricting of the state legislative map has town officials preparing to notify affected residents.

With the redistricting of the state legislative map, East Windsor has been split into two house districts, the 57th and 59th.

Prior to 2011 redistricting, East Windsor has been covered by the 57th District alone, along with Ellington. But in the new map, the 59th District needed more population to round out the map and was expanded south, officials said.

The current representatives of the districts are Christopher Davis, R-Ellington in the 57th and David Kiner, D-Enfield in the 59th.

Republican Registrar of Voter Linda Sinsigallo told the board of selectmen last week that she and her Democratic counterpart Dan Nadeau contacted Manchester officials to find out how they are handling redistricting,

Sinsigallo said they will have to know all of the streets in the new district and everyone on those streets. Those residents will then have to be contacted to tell them they are in a new voting district, she said.

“We are going to send a postcard to all of the people who are affected “You are now in the  59th District,” Sinsigallo said.

The peculiarities of the district boundaries means that one side of Wells Road will be in the 59th and the other will be the 57th, Nadeau said.  One segment of the Canyon Ridge Apartments on North Road, about three buildings, will be in the 57th and the other, 21 buildings, will be in the 59th, officials said.

For the election, the town will have to add a third district to accommodate the voter in the 59th District, Sinsigallo said.
