Democrats Nominate East Windsor's Jason Bowsza to Vie for 57th District Seat

He will challenge incumbent Republican Christopher Davis of Ellington.

Jason Bowsza, of East Windsor, was unanimously endorsed Tuesday as the Democratic candidate to represent the 57th District, which includes Ellington and East Windsor, in the Connecticut House of Representatives.

Bowsza, 30, is chairman of the East Windsor Board of Finance. He was elected to the board in 2007 and in his acceptance speech at the nominating convention in Ellington Tuesday spoke of his work this year to bridge sharply partisan divide and pass a budget unanimously.

“Our state and community deserve leaders that work together to solve problems, not fight amongst themselves,” Bowsza said, in press release. “We have an economy to fix, jobs to create, children to educate, and seniors and veterans to protect. There’s simply no time for obstructionist posturing.”

In addition to holding local office, Bowsza has also been involved in youth sports programs, local civic organizations, and has worked for eight years in the Connecticut General Assembly. He is the clerk of the Environment Committee, responsible for tracking votes and moving legislation through the complex lawmaking process.

Bowsza says he’s eager to get to work in a new role as state representative

“Connecticut needs to be a place where everyone has an opportunity to get a good education, where good paying jobs are plentiful, where a trained and capable workforce are available for 21st century professions, and where no one ever has to choose between healthcare and putting food on their table,” Bowsza said in the release.

“When I was a kid, my parents would tuck my brother and me into bed each night and ask us three questions:  Did you do the best you can today?  Did you treat others the way you’d like to be treated?  Did you do the right thing?  We should be asking those same questions of our government, and when I’m elected state representative, I’ll make sure that we do.”

A third- generation resident of East Windsor, Bowsza graduated from East Windsor High School in 2000 and went on to study political science at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, earning a degree in 2004.
