News and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Second District

Paul Formica (R): Formica, who will face off against fellow-Republican Daria Novak on Aug. 14 in a Republican primary, has picked up two more newspaper endorsements. The Norwich Bulletin and The Day, of New London, have endorsed the East Lyme first selectman. Formica also was endorsed by the Hartford Courant last week as its primary pick.

Daria Novak (R): Novak will take part in a "Candidate Forum" at 7 p.m., today at Vernon Town Hall. Here's what she posted about it on Facebook:

  • "It is going to be a very busy today, ending with a Candidate Forum tonight at the Vernon Town Hall at 7 pm between your conservative candidate and the liberal running for US Congress in CT-02. Voters only will be asking questions from the floor. No pre-planned or media questions allowed, just you the voters discussing the issues of the day. The Forum will give your candidates a chance for presentign our solutions, with more in depth answers, rather than an attack-style debate. We will be talking only about the national issues facing our nation. You get to decide who is better prepared to take on the Democrat this fall. Of course, I know the answer to that question! lol"

Fifth District

Chris Donovan (D): Donovan used Representative Chris Murphy's defense of the controversial candidate in a mailing without authorization, reports The Connecticut Mirror. He then sent out a statement of regret.
