Broad Brook Woman Buys Winning Lottery Ticket

The ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven in Windsor Locks.

From the CT Lottery:

Gay Lyn Johnson of Broad Brook got a “wild notion” to purchase a lottery ticket the other day while driving home from work.

“I just felt like stopping at a different store for me and buy a ticket,” Johnson said in a press release.

A “pretty” ticket caught her eye—“Emerald Green 8’s & Ruby Red 7’s” and she bought it.  When she was done scratching the play areas, Johnson counted up ten $1,000 prizes for a grand total prize win of $10,000.

“With each $1,000 I scratched, I thought, ‘this can’t be!’” Johnson told Lottery officials with a laugh.

Johnson arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill today to accept a prize check for $6,833 (value after taxes).  “I’m going to pay some bills, but first, I’m going to take my Mom out to breakfast,” Johnson joked.

For selling Johnson her top prize winning ticket, , located at 535 Halfway House Road in Windsor Locks, will receive a check for $100 from the CT Lottery.

The overall chances of winning a prize in the $10 instant game Emerald Green 8’s & Ruby Red 7’s are 1 in 3.96.  Of the 52 top prizes in the game, 24 remain to be claimed.

The CT Lottery reminds the public that purchasers must be 18 or older, and to please play responsibly.  For information about the CT Lottery, call (860) 713-2700, or visit ctlottery.org.
