$51 Million Education Budget Proposal Unveiled for Vernon

It's an increase of 7.69 percent.

Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway on Wednesday night presented a $51.88 million 2013-14 budget proposal to the Board of Education.

The bottom line of $51,885,043 represents an increase of $3,704,046 - or 7.69 percent - over this year's budget of $48,180,997.

The School board is scheduled to begin deliberating over the numbers on Jan. 16.

Look for a further breakdown of the budget on Thursday morning's Vernon Patch.

Holy Cow!!! 7.69% increase???? Who else is coming forward for their increase in the Town Budget???? Does this mean a big fat increase to the Property TAXES??? Between the STATE OF CONNECTICUT and the higher Social Security Tax from the Federal. People are being TAXED TO DEATH!!!

Don't start!!! You are complaining before you know ANYTHING about what is in either the town or Board of Education Budget!!! You may not interested in anything but the bottom line, but at least take a few days to see what the increases are for and maybe even think about what you would cut and why!! You, as a citizen, have some resposibility to ask some questions and offer some ideas before you start to battle. You don't have much personal input into the goings on in Hartford and Washington, DC but you do in Vernon. Stop with the cheap shots from your easy chair! You could help you know!

Don't tell me what to do! Don't tell me I don't have much personal input into the goings on in Hartford and Washington, DC! I'm a registered VOTER! Your always looking for argument. Yes, I can help, that you are correct in stating that. Well, it's your turn to act like a TAX PAYER and not a town employee. You need to come on here and state your comments and put yourself in the shoes of the Tax Payers of this town and stop sucking face with officials for a pat on the back when it comes to Town ISSUES!

OK ... this has the potential to turn into back-and-forth personal stuff and it stops right now. Let's have a clean, constructive debate or the comments will be cut off.

I will point out that the yearly increases in the school budget the last few years have been very, very small... 2 years ago it actually went DOWN. Vernon residents have to face the fact that our school system is in trouble. Some of these steps are absolutely needed.
