WL Police Charge Second Person in Prostitution, Human Trafficking Case

Police arrested a New York City man on Wednesday, nearly four months after levying similar charges against a woman.

In early December, a woman ran from a small massage parlor on National Drive, yelling in Chinese that she was being held against her will.

Within days, another woman, Chun Lan Tam Wang, was arrested and charged with holding the unidentified woman against her will and forcing her to perform sexual acts on some customers of the Century Spa.

At that time, Windsor Locks police said more arrests could be made.

On Wednesday, Windsor Locks police made a second arrest in the case, this time charging a man, Jie Li, 44, of New York, NY, with human trafficking, second-degree promotion of prostitution and second-degree threatening.

According to police Capt. Chester Degray in December, the unidentified woman told police that she had been lured to the business from New York, and upon arriving, Wang refused to allow her to leave or contact anyone for help. Wang allegedly told the victim that she could make money for food by performing certain sexual acts on customers of the spa, Degray said.

Wang has since pleaded innocent to the charges against her, including human trafficking, second-degree promoting prostitution, second-degree unlawful restraint, cruelty to persons, second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening.

Li appeared in court on Wednesday, April 3, almost immediately after turning himself into police.
