Windsor Locks Police Officer Injured in Early Morning Accident
The officer was struck by a drunk driver while stopped at a stop light at Spring and Main streets, police said.
A Windsor Locks police officer was injured early Friday morning when a drunk driver rear-ended his police cruiser, police said.
Officer Paul Sherokow was stopped at a stop light in the east-bound lane of Spring Street at Main Street when a car driven by Stewart McKechnie struck his police cruiser, Capt. Chester DeGray said.
The crash forced both cars into the intersection. Sherokow was taken to Hartford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, where he was treated and released. When Sherokow will return to duty was undetermined Friday morning, DeGray said.

McKechnie, 31, of 33 Cemetery Rd., East Windsor, is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor/drugs/elevated blood alcohol level, reckless driving, carrying a dangerous weapon and a weapon in a motor vehicle. McKechnie is being held on $10,000 and is scheduled to appear in Enfield Superior Court this morning.
A passenger in McKechnie’s car, Cassandra Gutkowski, of 24 Grace St., Windsor Locks, was uninjured, DeGray said
