Windsor Locks PD Makes Major Promotion

The Windsor Locks Police Department promoted Paul Cherniack to the rank of sergeant at its meeting this week.

Cherniack will also be appointed to the position of detective sergeant come Mon., May 20, according to Police Chief Eric Osanitsch.

The promotion was approved by the police commission at its meeting Wednesday

The commission also approved the hiring of two new officers.

Ret. State Trooper Kieth Loveland and current Enfield Officer Ashley Taylor were officially given job offers, pending the passage of physical examinations.

Cherniack, a 7-year member of the Windsor Locks Police Department and a cop with 30 years of experience, said he's excited about being a part of the blueprint being laid for the future of the department.

A significant part of that blueprint is the establishment of a new leadership structure and implementation of new patrols in an effort to become more proactive in fighting local crime, he said Wednesday.

"To make any kind of real change, lasting change, you have to develop a management team... (Cherniack) is the first part of that," said Osanitsch following the police commissions vote of approval.

According to Osanitsch, Cherniack will be takin over the department's detective division -- an "extremely important position in the department."

Cherniack will be charged with representing the department outside of town, in addition to supervising all major crimes, Osanitsch said.

"It's a pivotal position that I'm extremely confident he's going to do well in," added Osanitsch.
