Crime Culture Changing in Windsor Locks
Crime stats released by the Windsor Locks Department show incidents of criminal activity growing, but the effects of recent department activity are also apparent.
The Windsor Locks Police Department released year-to-year crime stats Monday in an effort to illustrate changes in the community and the impact of isolated police efforts.
According to the statistics, crime in Windsor Locks grew in 60 percent of crime categories, but significant gains were made in several areas.
Areas of improvement include motor vehicle accidents, which declined by 16 percent due to increased patrols, according to the department.

Domestic violence is also an area of improvement. While incidents rose 8.7 percent in 2012, domestic violence in town rose 66 percent in 2011.
Thanks to the establishment of a crime suppression unit is the Chestnut Street area, the department, in just one month, made nearly half of the year's total drug arrests.
