Fire departments from Windsor Locks and Thompsonville assisted Suffield firefighters. Fire officials report that one person is "unaccounted for" in the Mapleton Avenue fire.

This story was reported and written by Local Editor Tim Jensen.

Update, 9:10 p.m.

A fire official said someone is "unaccounted for" at the scene of the fire, but would not confirm who that person is.

"We can say nothing beyond that, because I don't have the information on how many lived there, or whether they were home or not," District Fire Chief Tom Romano said.

Firefighters have not yet entered the house, as a team is checking the structural safety of the building, Romano said.

The first police officer to arrive at the scene reported seeing the entire first floor and the second floor rear portion of the house fully engulfed in flames.
