Speed Bumps Coming to Center Street

The Windsor Locks Police Commission recently approved the installation of speed bumps to curb speeding and improve the safety of little leaguers.

The Windsor Locks Police Commission recently voted to place temporary speed bumps on Center Street.

The action came following safety concerns expressed by local little league officials, according to Commission Chair Kevin Brace.

Prior to the commission's vote, Brace laid out a plan to curb speeding and improve the safety of ballplayers and their families through the installation of, what he called, speed cushions within the vicinity of Pesci Park on Center Street.

According to Brace, the speed cushions are temporary — they will be installed prior to the little league season and removed afterwards.

The vote was unanimous, authorizing Windsor Locks Police Chief Eric Osanitsch to pursue installation of the cushions, including securing funding, which, the commission said, would likely come from the town's public works budget.

The cushions will be installed in sets of three, creating two gaps wide enough for emergency vehicles to pass without slowing down.
