Police Look to Increase Visibility in Windsor Locks

The department continues its makeover, this time with an eye on increasing visibility around town.

Windsor Locks Police continue to make strides toward making over the department's image and bringing the department into modern times. Weeks ago, the department revealed a new patch to be worn on its uniforms. It was also revealed officers uniforms would soon receive an upgrade.

The latest upgrade to the department came on four wheels: two 2013 Ford Explorers.

With the standard police cruiser, the Crown Victoria, having been put out of commission, the department chose to go down the SUV route.

While the vehicles are larger, they actually have better gas mileage and will allow the department to shed the necessary tire-chaining in the winter. Both the four-wheel drive and better gas mileage are expected to have a positive effect on the department's budget.

Police Chief Eric Osanitsch said the vehicle's design was chosen to convey the department offers "professional service" and to be more visible around town.

While only two new vehicles have been purchased, the plan is to update the department's entire fleet over time, Osanitsch said.
