Police Dogs Sweep Windsor Locks High School For Illegal Drugs

Superintendent Wayne Sweeney says no illegal drugs were found in the school building. One car had drugs and paraphernalia.

Police dogs conducted a sweep of Tuesday to detect illegal drugs, Superintendent of Schools Wayne Sweeney said in a press release.

The sweep was coordinated by the using five K-9 uits from three area towns, along with the high school administration. The sweep followed the board of education Policy “Search and Seizure” (Policy # 5025) and the procedures outlined in the  Memorandum of Understanding with the Windsor Locks Police Department, and the Windsor Locks Public Schools approved by the board of education, Sweeney said.

The sweep included hallways, bathrooms, cafeteria, and gym/athletic locker rooms and the student parking lot. The students remained in their classrooms, and continued with their instruction during the sweep.

“I am very pleased to report that no drugs were found within the school building however, the sweep of the parking lot necessitated the search of one vehicle where drugs and paraphernalia were present,” Sweeney said.  “Appropriate measures were taken by both the Windsor Locks Police Department and the high school administration as a result.”

The student will face disciplinary action from the school district, which has a zero tolerance policy on illegal drugs, Sweeney said.
