Motorcyle Rider Injured in Accident With Car in East Windsor

Police closed a section of Route 5 for several hours as they investigated the accident.

A motorcycle rider was flown to Hartford Hospital by Lifestar helicopter after apparentlt being hit by a car at the intersection of Prospect Hill Road and Prospect Hill Drive in East Windsor Friday afternoon.

Police closed the portion of Route 5 (Prospect Hill Road) between the entrances to Wal-Mart and Big Y for several hours while a regional accident reconstruction team investigate the accident.

Police said the motorcycle was headed north on Prospect Hill Road when it was hit by the southbound car turning east towards Prospect Hill Drive. The male motorcycle rider was severely injured and had to be flown to the hospital by Lifestar, police said.

Sgt. Stephen Andrusko there was no evidence that alcohol was involved in the accident.

Michael and Darlene Tardif, who live a couple of doors south of the intersection, said they heard the crash but didn’t see it. Michael Tardif went outside, then called 911, and told the dispatcher to send an ambulance, Darlene Tardif said.

The man riding the motorcycle was apparently thrown forward after being hit based on where he was laying when they saw him, Darlene Tardif said. The accident happened around 1:45 p.m.

The Tardifs said another motorcyclist was killed in the same area in 1995. Route has a lot of fast traveling vehicles, they said.

“It’s a dangerous intersection to pull out into,” Darlene Tardif said.

While police were not releasing names Friday afternoon, the Tardifs said they know the man who was driving the car but not the man on the motorcycle.
