Local Package Store Fails Compliance Test

The store allegedly sold beer to an underage volunteer for the state Friday.

A Windsor Locks package store failed a compliance check Friday by Department of Consumer Protection Liquor Control Agents and Windsor Locks police, officials said.

Liquor agents and members of the Windsor Locks Police Department conducted compliance checks at eight package stores and grocery stores in that town that sell beer. One store failed by allegedly selling liquor to the volunteer minor who was assisting in the undercover operation.

The 18-year-old volunteer was trained and provided by the Governor’s Prevention Partnership.

at 15-17 Ella Grasso Turnpike, Windsor Locks allegedly sold to the minor and will be called before the Liquor Control Commission to address the charge, according to state Department of Consumer Protection officials said.

During a compliance check Saturday, liquor agents and members of the Plainfield Police Department tested package stores and grocery stores that sell beer in Plainfield, Moosup and Central Village for compliance. Nine package stores and grocery stores were tested and every store passed. No store sold liquor to the undercover volunteer minor, officials said.

“We’re very pleased with the results of these compliance checks as they indicate that overall, permittees in these two communities are complying with the Connecticut Liquor Control Act, and in so doing, are helping reduce the sale of alcoholic liquor to minors,” Consumer Protection Commissioner and Liquor Control Commission Chairperson William M. Rubenstein said Monday. “Our liquor control agents will continue to work with local police to conduct these checks, which are helpful in identifying areas that need further education and enforcement efforts.”
