Inmate Assaults Fellow Inmate at Northern Correctional Institution

One inmate was injured in the altercation and is in stable condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

 

On Wednesday evening, State Police received a report of an inmate on inmate assault that had taken place at .

According to State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance, Correction Officers reported that two inmates became involved in an altercation resulting in one inmate being injured. The inmate suffered multiple injuries and was taken to , stabilized, and then was transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital. The injuries are reported to be non-life threatening and he is in stable condition.

The second inmate involved in this incident was not injured and has been secured by Correction Officers at the facility. Correction Officers also secured the cell where the incident took place.

No names are being released at this time.

State Police Major Crime Detectives responded to the facility to initiate a criminal investigation into the incident. The State Police investigation determined that the two inmates were incarcerated in the same cell when the altercation took place.  

The State Police are continuing this criminal investigation and arrests are anticipated.
