Former Windsor Locks Business Owner Sentenced for Not Disposing of Hazardous Waste

Donald Cunningham failed to clean up barrels of hazardous waste after his business shut down in 2007.

Former Windsor Locks business owner Donald Cunningham was sentenced to five years in prison last week for leaving barrels of hazardous waste at his business, the Norwich Bulletin reports.

Cunningham, 70, also failed to pay his employees for several months after his manufacturing business, Hanson-Whitney, closed in 2007, the Bulletin said.

It cost the state and federal government $600,000 to dispose of the cyanide and other hazardous materials left behind at the business, according to the Bulletin.
