Former Car Dealer Arrested on Fraud Charges

The former owner of Xtreme Performance charged with duping customers.

After a year-long investigation, East Windsor police arrested the owner of a former car dealership in town Friday on multiple larceny and other charges.

David T. Bishop, 49, of Southwick, MA., is charged with two counts of second-degree larceny, two counts of third-degree larceny, 18 counts of failure to deliver certificate of title and 17 counts of failure to disclose a security interest in a used motor vehicle.

Police said Bishop was the owner of Xtreme Performance, 179 S. Main St. The business and Bishop were the subject of about 50 complaints filed with the state Department of Motor Vehicles and East Windsor police in and around December 2009.

The DMV did a surprise inspection of the dealership in December 2009, after which the business never reopened, police said.

Alleged complaints from victims included not getting their vehicles after purchase, not getting title after taking delivery of their vehicle, victims purchasing vehicles that had been sold by Bishop more than once and a victim driving off the dealer lot with a stolen license plate that had been supplied by Bishop, police said.
