Fire Closes Portion of Scantic Road in East Windsor

The house at 342 Scantic Road caught fire around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

A prime artery connecting a large portion of East Windsor with Route 5 is closed as firefighters work to extinguish a fire in an old house on Scantic Road.

The 816 square foot Colonial at 342 Scantic Road went up in flames around 10 a.m. Firefighters from Warehouse Point and Broad Brook were aided by the South Windsor Fire Department.

The house, built in 1900 and set in a heavily-treed area, sustained heavy damage. The owner, a Korean War veteran, escaped from the house unharmed, according to a neighbor.

Scantic Road, which connects with Route 5 at the South Windsor town line, was closed between Schanck and Abbe roads as firefighters worked at the scene. A low-hanging power line necessitated a shutoff by Connecticut Light & Power.

Thank you Patch for posting this story - I am a neighbor (343 Scantic Road), and I was so glad to learn that my neighbor escaped unharmed. The owner of the home is blind, and I was very concerned. Thank the Lord that he is fine.
