East Windsor Teen Charged With Making Bombs Gets Large Bail Reduction

Kyle Bass, 18, had his bail reduced weeks after the priest who tipped off police to his alleged weapon possession was charged with violating federal firearm laws.

Kyle Bass, the East Windsor teen police say made threats against his Bloomfield school, received a significant reduction to his bail per a judge's order Monday.

Bass was initially held on $750,000 bond, but a judge reduced that amount to $350,000 Monday, according to a Hartford Courant report. Additionally, the Courant reports, the judge provided the 18-year-old Winkler Road resident with the option to pay 10 percent of his bail to be released.

Bass was charged with two counts of criminal attempt to manufacture bombs, illegal possession of explosives, possession of a silencer, possession of fireworks and breach of peace.

The judge's action came just weeks after Father Paul Gotta, the East Windsor priest who told police Bass had weapons, the ability to make explosives and made disturbing comments about his school, was charged with several federal firearm law violations.

Gotta was placed on leave this month after having been accused of sexually abusing a minor.

Police say Bass has been charged with aiding and abetting the unlawful transport of a firearm in interstate commerce and the purchase of a handgun by a juvenile.
