Obituary: Helen M. (Kobos) Rachel, 99, of Windsor Locks


Helen M. (Kobos) Rachel, 99, of Windsor Locks, beloved wife of the late Frank G. Rachel, died Monday, May 26, 2014, at Bickford Healthcare Center in Windsor Locks.

Born in Ipswich, Mass. on August 18, 1914, daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Smidowicz) Kobos she had lived in Windsor Locks for 86 years. Before retiring in 1981, she was employed by Montgomery Company of Windsor Locks for 51 years.

She was a communicant of St. Mary Church, was active in the Senior Citizens Center and a member of the Polish National Home, all in Windsor Locks. She leaves nieces and nephews, Joseph Kobos of Windsor Locks, Regina Gaylord of Windsor, Jeannette Pafford of Windsor Locks, Marie Munsie of Suffield, Janet Euskavech in Pennsylvania, Ronald Nicewicz in Vermont, Edward Zavaski, Jr., of Wallingford, Mary Ann Moon of Haddam and David Vaicunas of Windsor Locks; a sister-in-law, Veronica Rachel of East Granby and many grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Kobos and a sister, Mary Vaicunas.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, May 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Leete Stevens Funeral Home, 61 South Rd., Enfield,

Family and friends may gather on Friday, May 30, at 9 a.m. at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church.

Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
