Windsor Locks Police Commission Announces Passage Employee Retirement Incentive Plan

Windsor Locks Police Commission offers retirement incentive to 5 employees.

On Wednesday the Windsor Locks Police Commission unanimously voted to pass an Employee Retirement Incentive Plan. "This plan received bipartisan support first by the Board of Finance and now tonight by the Police Commission because of the cost savings to the Town, and the ability to rapidly restructure the Police Department", said Windsor Locks Police Commission Chairman Kevin Brace. "First Selectman Wawruck, Chief Osanitsch, Human Resources Director Shannon Walker, and I went before the Board of Finance two weeks ago and presented this plan. The employees in exchange for retiring would each be given 7 years of health insurance coverage or covered until Medicare age which ever comes first. Currently if a Police Department employee retires, the Town pays for half of the employees healthcare", said Brace. With a split vote the Board of Finance approved the plan, and member Douglas Glazier crossed party lines supporting the plan. "The Commission thanks Mr. Glazier for recognizing the merits of the plan and immediate financial savings to the Town", said Brace. "The Commission and Chief Osanitsch are exploring every possible cost saving measure within our budget, and we are not afraid to think outside of the box, said Brace. The approved plan would be offered to Officer Danny Squires (25 years of service), Sergeant Michael Balfore (26 years of service), Sergeant Ricardo Rachele (33 years of service), Sergeant Frank Baron (36 years of service), and Captain Chester DeGray (12 years of service). "I must stress that this is not an early retirement offer, rather an incentive to retire. All of these employees are currently eligible to retire", said Brace. "This could mark the closing of some very long years of service and dedication to the Town of Windsor Locks if these employees choose to accept it. The Commission wishes to thank each of these men for their service to the Windsor Locks Police Department and the Town regardless of their decision", said Brace.
