What is the SGI?  www.SGI-USA.org

Our lay Buddhist organization is called the SGI, which

stands for Soka Gakkai International (Soka Gakkai is Japanese for “The Society

for the Creation of Value”. Our collective goal is to realize world peace

through each person becoming happy. As our SGI President, Daisaku Ikeda states “A  great human revolution in just a single

individual will help achieve a change in the destiny of a nation and further,

will enable a change in the destiny of all humankind.”

Discussion meetings are a tradition dating back to the Soka

Gakkai’s birth in Japan. They embody the SGI’s fundamental spirit of cherishing

each person through heart-to-heart exchanges. By sharing our experiences and

discussing Buddhism together we contribute to one another’s faith and gain

immeasurable benefit.
