Blizzard Update: Cancellations in Windsor Locks, East Windsor

The public schools are closed and events planned for Friday night and Saturday have already been canceled because of the predicted one to two feet of snow that could blanket the area.

As meteorologists predict that the coming winter storm will now stretch into the weekend, organizers of weekend events and business owners are consider whether to cancel or reschedule their events.

As of 5:30 a.m., the National Weather Service is calling for snow to start falling gently early Friday, with a significant amount forecasted to cover the area, with the heaviest snow Friday and into Saturday morning. A blizzard warning is in effect from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon, with as much as one to three feet of snow accumulating in the Windsor Locks and East Windsor area. 

The superintendents of schools in East Windsor and Windsor Locks spread the word Thursday evening that school would be canceled on Friday because of the storm.

The East Windsor and Windsor Locks town halls will close at their normal time of 1 p.m. Friday.

7-Eleven in East Windsor has gasoline and no plans to close, according to a store manager.

Organizers of events planned on Friday or Saturday have canceled and rescheduled.

The following is a list of cancellations as of Thursday evening:

Windsor Locks WinterfestEvents scheduled for the Town Hall and Senior Center have been canceled, with acts that had been scheduled to perform rebooked for the town’s Spring Festival in May.

Windsor Locks Public Library's annual Winterfest book sale: Postponed until Saturday, Feb. 16. For more information call (860) 627-1495 or visit www.windsorlockslibrary.org.

Windsor Locks Lions Annual Wine Tasting: Canceled for Saturday and has been postponed until Feb. 15.

: The Friday night performance of Hairspray at the Broad Brook Opera House has been canceled. Ticket holders should call the box office at (860) 292-6068 ASAP to switch their tickets to another performance.

Inspired Intuition Therapeutic Massage & Wellness: Classes have been canceled for Friday and Saturday.  

New England Air Museum: The museum will be closed Friday and Saturday because of the storm, and will re-open on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Department of Motor Vehicles: The state DMV will be closed on Friday. They'll make a decision abou Saturday hours later in the day.

Bradley International Airport: All commercial airline traffic will be suspended as of 1:30 p.m. Friday and is not expected to resume until mid-to-late morning on Saturday. The airport will remain open as long as airport personnel are not in harms way. Passengers are encouraged to contact their specific airline for more details about the next scheduled flights. Phone lines are jammed right now so the best way to get information about a flight is through the airline's website, Facebook or Twitter pages.
