Rainy Monday Possible, Homecoming Week at Windsor Locks High School, East Windsor Rotary Club Spaghetti Dinner

Five Things for Monday.

 

1. Hello Monday, it will mostly cloudy with with showers developing in the afternoon and a  high temperature of 71 degrees, according to The Weather Channel. Tonight has a 60 percent chance of rain with a low temperature of 50 degrees.

2. On This Day in: 1883, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down part of the Civil Rights Act of 1875. It allowed for individuals and corporations to discriminate based on race; 1939, New York Municipal Airport was dedicated. The name was later changed to La Guardia Airport; 1946, Hermann Goering, a Nazi war criminal and founder of the Gestapo, poisoned himself just hours before his scheduled execution; 1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis began. It was on this day that U.S. intelligence personnel analyzing data discovered Soviet medium-range missile sites in Cuba. On October 22 U.S. President John F. Kennedy announced that he had ordered the naval "quarantine" of Cuba; 1984, the Freedom of Information Act was passed; and 1993, South Africa's President F.W. de Klerk and African National Congress President Nelson Mandela were named winners of the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to end the apartheid system in South Africa.

4. The East Windsor Rotary Club is hosting a Halloween Spaghetti Supper from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on October 26 in East Windsor High School’s cafeteria. The meal, which will benefit, local, national and international charities, will serve spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread, salad, cookies, soda, coffee and tea for $7 per person. Children 5 and under eat free.

5. The East Windsor Chamber of Commerce will be holding a mini trade show at its next business after hours from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. October 24. The event will benefit the East Windsor Education Foundation and will be held Baymont Inn and Suites.

Chamber members can buy a table/booth for $25 which will be donated to foundation, which provides grants to educational opportunities to East Windsor school system and beyond.
