Rain, a Budget for East Windsor & Your Miranda Rights

Here is a look at five things you might be interested in today, Wednesday, June 13.

1. Rain. Mostly all day. That's pretty much it, folks. According to the National Weather Service, rain will continue today through the early afternoon before tapering off to just a few showers into the evening. The temperature should be about 75F. The good news is that the end of the week and the weekend should be fantastic so don't despair, here comes the sun!

2. It passed. East Windsor has joined the dozens of other towns in the region to set before marching into the next fiscal year, which starts July 1.

Taxpayers approved the $33.9 million municipal budget Tuesday. Town officials seem to be pretty relieved to finally have a plan in place, although a few from the town government side would have preferred to have had the 2 percent increase that would have been applied across the board had the budget been defeated for the third time (charter rules.

3. Alien plants and animals invading our environment? Should we run for cover? Not necessarily, according to outdoors columnist Ed Ricciuti.

, Ricciuti says that although some invasives deserve their bad reputations (think: emerald ash borer beetle or the Burmese python), not all are worth the near crisis level warning that they are given.

4. Admittedly it is a bit of a drive, but if your children like to cook and hang out with dad, a special cooking class offered at Stew Leonard's in Newington might be a fun Saturday morning activity to consider.

The grocer is and for a $15 fee invites are kids and dads to participate in the 90 minute session.

5. "You have the right to remain silent..." Not exactly the phrase that you want to hear, but if you're ever in that situation, be thankful that you at least can.
