Patch Picks: Ice Cream

Local places to indulge in your cravings for that frozen treat.

Patch Picks has found some of the favorite spots in the region to stop for that favorite summertime treat — ice cream.

Dairy Cream at Bradley International
is known for its soft serve, creamy milkshakes and location right across the street from Bradley International Airport. They also offer slushes and hot dogs. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., accepting cash only.

Dari Delite
Located on the East Windsor/South Windsor town line, Dari Delite has been in business for 55 years serving hard and soft ice cream, milkshakes, ice cream floats and Italian ice. They also offer homemade wraps, such as Buffalo chicken, gourmet veggie and slow cooked beef; hot dogs and chicken salad sandwiches. The stand is open Sunday, noon to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Collins Creamery at Powder Hill Farm
boasts 32 flavors of homemade ice cream made with high-butterfat milk from the farm’s own cows. It is at a scenic spot at the top of the hill, with plenty of parking and a family-friendly atmosphere for both kids and dogs. Along with ice cream, they also offer milkshakes, root beer floats, malts, ice cream sandwiches and chocolate chip cookie sandwiches. They also sell ice cream cakes and ice cream by the half gallon, quart and pint. They are open daily from noon to 9 p.m.

Wilma’s Scoop Du Jour
in Suffield offers indoor and outdoor seating, hard and soft ice cream and dozens of other frozen treats. They have about 25 flavors of Hershey's ice cream on its menu. Located in the CVS Plaza on Mountain Road, it is within easy walking distance of the Kent Library, Town Hall and many restaurants in town.

Smyth’s Ice Cream Stand
In business since 1977, offers ice cream, frozen yogurt, Italian ice and milkshakes. Other treats include dipped cones, banana boats and flurry-style blended treats. They have benches and picnic tables with shade. They are open daily 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. from March 1 to Nov. 1.
