My Brother the Evil Genius, East Windsor High Sports Sked, State Rep. Chris Davis Meeting

Here are five things going on in the area today.

Good morning, East Windsor and Windsor Locks! Today is Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013. There are 348 days left in the year.

My name is Ted Glanzer, and, in addition to being incredibly handsome, I’m also the South Windsor Patch editor. Every weekday I write a Daily 5 for that site, which I am bringing here as well. You’re welcome in advance.

Ah, snow days bring me back. When I was a child, my older brother Charlie and I would make forts and have somewhat epic snowball fights in our driveway. And by epic, I mean that Charlie would overrun me like he was Patton’s army and I was Rommel.

The problem was that my brother, four years older than I, could make impenetrable snow forts. These things weren’t like my flimsy large balls of snow that were hastily constructed and easily toppled with a well-placed throw.

No, his were like one big sheet of ice. Charlie’s forts would last until the very end of the winter, while mine would be gone with the first warm day.

Charlie, who was an evil genius, never revealed his secret until our snowball-fighting days were well behind us. He would construct his fort and then hose it down with water and wait a night before engaging me in battle, making his fort one big block of ice.

It wasn’t fair. I did, however, exact my revenge on him. His model car collection, which he painstakingly put together, was no match for Godzilla Ted, who smashed those plastic vehicles with extreme prejudice.

He never forgave me for that.

Here’s your Daily 5:

1. Breakdancing classes for boys and girls. I am so there.

2. There is a job search support group for unemployed workers in East Windsor.

3. State Rep. Chris Davis has a town hall meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in East Windsor.

4. Adoption Healing Support Group at Universalist Church in West Hartford.

5. The East Windsor High wrestling team takes on SMSA/University at home at 7 p.m.
