Heat and Humidity Visit Tuesday, Proposed Moratorium on Issuing Liquor Permits, Heat Survival Suggestions

Five Things for a steamy Tuesday.

 

1. Welcome Tuesday, it will be partly cloudy with a high temperature of, yikes, 98 degrees, according to The Weather Channel. Tonight will also be partly cloudy with a low temperature of  75 degrees.

2. On This Day in: 1941, the longest hitting streak in baseball history ended when the Cleveland Indians pitchers held New York Yankee Joe DiMaggio hitless for the first time in 57 games; 1954, the Brooklyn Dodgers made history as the first team with a majority of black players; and 1997, after 117 years, the Woolworth Corp. closed its last 400 stores.

3. This bears repeating, the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection in June offered suggestions on ways to navigate the heat.


4. From Windsor Locks town hall: On July 9, the Planning and Zoning Commission proposed a moratorium on the approval of modified or new liquor permits. The public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m.  August 13 in the Ella T. Grasso Conference Room at , 50 Church Street.
 

5. State Sen. John A. Kissel will visit the Windsor Locks Senior Center afrom 11 a.m. to noon Thursday to answer questions from the public and provide an update on the policies being crafted at the State Capitol.

Kissel will discuss any issues residents wish to speak about, from jobs and the economy to policies impacting seniors.
