Bites Nearby: Frankie's

A restaurant emerges from a car wash in Windsor Locks.

Have you ever thought all this car wash needs is a good cheeseburger? Well, look no further than Frankie’s, which opened last March in Scott’s Auto Wash on Spring Street in Windsor Locks.

The restaurant recently obtained a beer and liquor license, so it has expanded its hours and menu to serve dinners as well as lunches.

“Last summer was pretty busy, the winter was hard, but things are picking up again this spring,” said Jean D’Agostino, who runs the restaurant with her daughter, Kristina Liberti. “We get a lot of traffic from the car wash and are starting to see repeat customers as well.”

You can order lunch while you wait for your car to be washed at the full service car wash, Frankie’s offers grinders, hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza. Prices range from $6-$8 for the grinders and that includes their Italian Steak Grinder that features a rib eye with peppers, onions and provolone cheese. Hot dogs, burgers and sides are all less than $5. Pizza starts a $6 for a 10-inch cheese pizza.

Starting May 17, the hours expanded on Thursday, Friday and Saturday so they are now open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. those days, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. They are closed Sundays.

The menu now includes pasta dinner specials, including homemade meatballs, bolognese sauce, Puttanesca sauce and alfredo sauce. Daily specials include chicken cutlets, stuffed shells, chicken Francaise, and linguini with clam sauce. The daily specials are $7.

Pasta dinners can be ordered full size, for four people, or half size, for two. Prices range from $8.75-$10.75 for half orders and $10.75-$14.75 for full orders. Garlic bread and salads also are available.

D’Agostino said the breads used in the sandwiches and the pizza shells are homemade from a bakery in Springfield and the sausages are from a specialty meats store in Springfield as well.

The restaurant is named after her son, Frankie D’Agostino, who is an owner along with his sister and mother.
