As Irene Turns To Tropical Storm Causing Power Outages and Fallen Tree Limbs

Town officials in East Windsor and Windsor Locks deploying town services where they can.

The winds and rain preceding Tropical Storm Irene has cause multiple power outages and tree limbs down in East Windsor and Windsor Locks, officials said.

CL&P  reports 1,775 customers in East Windsor and 2,171 customers in Windsor Locks without power at 11:30 a.m.

First Selectwoman Denise Menard declared a public emergency and a civil preparedness emergency in East Windsor this morning. A tree split near the police station in East Windsor.

One person used the shelter at the East Windsor Senior Center, officials said.

Windsor Locks Fire Department reports lots of calls for fallen limbs and power lines down this morning. First Selectman Steven N. Wawruck Jr. declared an emergency on Friday to be prepared for anything needed, he said.

Most of the power outages are being caused by limbs falling on power lines. Most the outages are North, North Main, Suffield and Spring streets.

“We’re hoping for the best,” Wawruck said.
