Tobacco Valley Teachers Federal Credit Union to Celebrate International Credit Union Day

On Oct. 17, 2013, credit union members around the world will celebrate International Credit Union Day, an event to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and achievements.  This year’s theme, “Credit Unions Unite for Good: A Better Way,” emphasizes the benefits of cooperation among credit unions worldwide. It also speaks to the powerful global network of 56,000 credit unions, which no other financial institution can claim, and the advantages that result from sharing challenges, experiences and solutions with one another to better serve members.

In honor of this special day, the Tobacco Valley Teachers Federal Credit Union invites its members and those interested in becoming a member, to visit the credit union during their celebration days – October 17, 18 and 19. There will be refreshments, give-a-ways, prize drawings for members and more.

International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually since 1948. Each year, the international event affords the opportunity to remember credit unions’ proud history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union difference. Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for more than 200 million members in 101 countries worldwide. They exist to serve their members, providing a safe place to save money and access affordable loans.

The Tobacco Valley Teachers Federal Credit Union located at 182 South Road in Enfield, Connecticut opened in 1936 and continues to offer a variety of services to its 3,600 members, including savings and checking accounts, loans, online services and more.  Membership is open to all public and non-public school employees who work in the towns of Enfield, East Windsor, Windsor, Windsor Locks, Suffield and Somers, Connecticut, Enrico Fermi High School students, Enfield High School students, employees of Community Health Resources and employees, commissioners and volunteers of the Enfield Fire Department. Plus, spouses of persons who died while within the field of membership of this credit union, persons retired as pensioners or annuitants from the above employment, members of their immediate families and organizations of such persons.
