Tornado Damage Won't Keep Sports World from Serving Community

Thanks to significant weather events, East Windsor's Sports World bubble was destroyed for the second time this year. Despite the setbacks, its co-owner says the bubble will be back.

Despite suffering damage to its dome for the second time this year, East Windsor's Sports World is set on returning to form.

The ten-year-old facility had its roof removed by an EF-1 tornado Monday just months after heavy snow caused the dome to rip and collapse.

The dome is built to sustain high winds, said Sports World co-owner Kate Muratore, it's just not built to sustain the wrath of a tornado.

After February's collapse, Sports World rebuilt and was operating as intended Monday afternoon. Funtime Sports Camp was underway when the twister destroyed the bubble.

It's programs like Funtime that will motivate Sports World to pick up the pieces and put the bubble back together again, according to Muratore.

"There's a lot of people depending on us for summer camps, for training, for the sports facility, so we'll rebuild," Muratore said without hesitation Tuesday afternoon.

Muratore welcomed Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to her facility Tuesday. The governor toured tornado damage in East Windsor, Windsor Locks and Windsor.
