Patch Picks: 'Tis The Season

Now that you've digested the turkey, time to think of Christmas trees.


Thanksgiving weekend is a popular time to traipse out in the fields and pick your own Christmas tree and our area offers a number of places you can start or continue this tradition. Many of these also offer pre-cut fresh trees if cutting down your own tree is not on your agenda.

Red Hill Christmas Tree Farm
Red Hill Christmas Tree Farm in East Windsor offers cut-your-own Christmas trees or fresh cut trees from their farm. Pick-your-own trees are $38, pre-cut trees, depending on size, can be $10, $20 or $38. They also will have fresh wreaths, cemetery boxes and kissing balls. Cash and checks only. The farm is open from 9 a.m. to dark on Saturday and Sunday, and from 11 a.m. to dark Monday through Friday. Santa will be visiting the farm on the weekends.

Old Orchard Farm
You can choose and cut your own Christmas tree at Old Orchard Farm in Broad Brook. The farm also has boughs and wreaths. Saws and tree wrapping provided. The farm is open weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cash and checks only.

Wagon Shed Nursery
Choose and cut your own Christmas tree at Wagon Shed Nursery in South Windsor. The farm is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting the day after Thanksgiving. Cash and checks only.

Dzen Tree Farm
Dzen Tree Farm, South Windsor, offers cut-your-own Christmas trees or fresh cut trees from their farm. The farm is open Nov. 25 through Dec. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. All trees are $38. The farm also has partnered with Juknis Farms, in East Windsor, to provide wreaths, cemetery boxes, poinsettias and decorating accessories. Cash and checks only, no credit cards accepted. String and saws are available for use.

Pell Farms
Pell Farms, Somers, offers cut-your-own trees or fresh cut trees from the farm. The cut-your-own trees are $38. They are fir trees and are about 8 feet tall. They also have live potted trees. These potted trees range from 2 to 7 feet, including Fraser Fir, Blue Spruce and White Spruce and prices range from $20-$100. Cash and check only. Starting Nov. 25 they are open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They also have decorative seasonal items including fresh wreaths, kissing balls and garlands.

Revay’s Garden and Gift Shop
, Broad Brook, offers pre-cut local trees from Hemlock Hill Farm in Somers, wreaths, kissing balls and poinsettias. They also have ornaments and decorated theme trees inside the garden shop, as well as Christmas decorations and more at the Christmas Shop. Starting after Thanksgiving they will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
