Judge OK's Sale of Montgomery Building for $100

Residential and business use could be in the future of Windsor Locks' historic Main Street building.

A Judge approved the sale of the Montgomery Mill building for just $100 — the high bid entered at auction — at a hearing held this week, according to the Journal Inquirer.

The winning bid was entered by Windsor veterinarian Mohan Sachdev and his daughter, Nisha.

This isn't the first bid the Sachdevs have entered on the historic Main Street property. At the last auction, they submitted the highest bid as well, but that bid of $15,000 was deemed too low by a judge at the time, the Journal Inquirer reports.

While the $100 winning bid seems quite low for the property, the Sachdevs are also responsible for taking care of $200 thousand in taxes on the property.

According to the JI report, the family is taking a look at a combination of residential and business use for the property, and has already satisfied the buik of tax payments through multiple $90,000 deposits required of bidders.

This isn't the first significantly historic building the Sachdev family has purchased with plans for breathing life into a town center.

The family purchased Windsor's historic Plaza Theater and its adjacent businesses and apartments in late 2011.

The family has worked with tow staff to developed an establishment capable of facilitating the revitalization of Windsor center.

Plans to bring a restaurant and breathe life into the town's old theater have already been established.

Similar collaboration with town staff  and residents in Windsor Locks will certainly be necessary for efforts concerning the Montgomery building, which has been seen as an integral part of the town's Main Street revitalization efforts.

The sale also comes just months after the town rejected a proposal from Windsor Locks' Chris Kervick to develop the property's hydropower facilities in an effort to entice a larger bidder and increase the availability of green energy in town.
