Hamilton Sundstrand Employees Recognize Flag Day With Large Ceremony.

Hamilton Sundstrand employees Tuesday took part in a ceremony recognizing Flag Day, whichincluded visits from Humvees and a Blackhawk helicopter.

The ceremony included guest speaker, Linda Schwartz, commissioner of the state Department of Veterans Affairs. Hamilton President Alain Bellemare, who introduced Schawartz, said the company is honored to make products for aerospace and ground vehicles that help protect the American flag.

Schwartz told attendees that the history of the flag is like the history of the country. She said since the flag was first created it has been a sign of hope to Americans and others around the world.

Schwartz said during her years as a flight nurse in the military seeing the flag while she was stationed in other countries was a comforting feeling.

“I ached so much to see my home and the closest piece to home was the flag,” Schwartz said.

The purpose of the event was to give all employees an opportunity to honor the service of company employees who are veterans and view military equipment, officials said.

Paula Hay, director of aerospace planning and logistics, said that several groups of employees who are veterans had held small recognition ceremonies in the past. Hay, who helped organized Tuesday events, said she suggested to human resource officials that one big ceremony be held.

“We formed a group and this is the result,” Hay said. “So far, things have gone fairly well.”

Hamilton Sundstrand employees were able to check out a Blackhawk helicopter, which the company makes parts for, as well as armored Humvees during the ceremony. The employees also had a picnic lunch.
