CT Studios Pays Back Taxes Owed in South Windsor

With the payment of nearly $40,000, the developer brings its tax bill current.

CT Studios LLC has paid its outstanding property taxes, according to a representative of the South Windsor tax collector’s office.

The developer of the much-delayed project paid $39,860.86 on Sept. 26 for taxes owed on two properties for 2010 and the first of two payments due for tax year 2011, according to Deputy Collector of Revenue Suzzanne Oefinger.

Specifically, CT Studios paid $5,517.09 for 2010 and $19,072.31 for the first payment of 2011 for real estate taxes owed on the property located at 540 Ellington Road and another $3,834.69 for 2010 and $11,436.37 for the first payment of 2011 for the lot identified as R008 John Fitch Boulevard.

“They are current and they are caught up on each property,” Oefinger said of the CT Studios.

Craig Stevenson, an economic development consultant for CT Studios LLC, said that the developer is pleased with moving forward with the project.

“It was always the intention of CT Studios to make good on its taxes,” Stevenson said. “They had been dedicating their resources to keep the project moving forward. Unfortunately, the project has been delayed more than they would have liked.”

The tax payment represents the latest development for CT Studios - which plans to build a small, 600-square-foot structure on the 23-acres of land that the town turned over to the developer in 2009. That structure will prevent the land from reverting back to the town in late October.

The goal, however, remains for CT Studios to construct a large movie studio - including stages and a mill for constructing sets - retail and office complex in South Windsor.

Toward that end, Stevenson said that the developer’s next step is to begin pulling building permits soon.
