Clear Snow Away Water From Meters and Fire Hydrants

Connecticut Water Company is asking its customers to clear paths because unusually high snow piles causing problems for meter readers.

The Connecticut Water Company is asking customers to provide a clear path to meter reading equipment on the outside of their homes. Recent snowfalls have made it difficult in some instances for meter readers to access the remote meter
reading device mounted to the exterior of their homes.

When the reading device cannot be accessed, it may be necessary to estimate the amount of water used for billing purposes, based on past usage history, until an actual meter reading can be obtained. A clear path to the meter helps Connecticut Water meter readers stay safe and prevent estimated bills.

The company also reminds customers to please consider taking a few minutes to clear fire hydrants located on or near their property.  An accessible fire hydrant helps protect property and save lives. Precious time is lost when buried hydrants have to be located and cleared of snow banks.
